I wrote a while back that I would not enter the argument of whether torture was moral with regards to terrorism.
There may be gradations of harshness in dealing with people. Once it has reached a certain level, it is torture. Whenever that degree is reached, it is always wrong. Always.
There, I have entered the moral argument.

The government tried to define it as intent. And it is a weird slope. Is it torture to question a person for many hours without stopping? (Like every police force does in every nation.) Is it torture to put a prisoner in solitary confinement?
I think the problem is that torture is like pornography - it's impossible to define, but "I know it when I see it."
I know I keep harping on "Faith of my Fathers" but McCain has a unique view of torture, having experienced it himself as a POW. Opened my eyes a little on the subject
